Testosterone Supplements and Low Testosterone Symptoms: What a Gummy Can and Cannot Do

Quick answer

Testosterone supplements are over-the-counter products sold for male vitality, while low testosterone is a medical condition that a doctor diagnoses with repeated early-morning blood tests plus symptoms. Stallion Power is a dietary supplement gummy. It is not testosterone, it is not a testosterone treatment, and no study shows it changes hormone levels.

The basics01

What are testosterone supplements?

Testosterone supplements are over-the-counter products, often called boosters, that list herbs, vitamins or amino acids. They do not contain testosterone itself.

Testosterone is a hormone. Medical testosterone therapy is a prescription treatment given under a doctor's care, with blood tests to monitor it (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

The two are different things in law and in practice. FDA does not approve supplements before sale, and a product that treats a disease is a drug (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements).

Where Stallion Power fits

It is a male vitality gummy sold as a dietary supplement. It does not contain testosterone, and we do not claim it raises testosterone.

Symptoms02

What are the symptoms of low testosterone?

Typical symptoms are low sex drive, tiredness, low mood, less muscle and more body fat. Many of them have other causes too.

That overlap is the problem. Poor sleep, stress, weight gain, depression, alcohol and some medicines can cause the same feelings with normal hormone levels (AUA, Testosterone deficiency guideline).

So a symptom list cannot tell you that you have low testosterone. Only a doctor, with blood tests, can.

Symptoms that fit low testosterone, and other common causes
SymptomOther causes to rule out
Low sex driveStress, mood, relationship strain, some medicines
TirednessPoor sleep, sleep apnea, anemia, thyroid problems
Low moodDepression, anxiety, life events
Less muscle, more fatInactivity, diet, aging
Erection troubleHeart disease, diabetes, medicines (NIDDK, ED symptoms and causes)

Diagnosis03

How do doctors diagnose low testosterone?

They use symptoms plus two separate early-morning blood tests that both come back low. A supplement cannot make that diagnosis, and neither can a questionnaire (AUA, Testosterone deficiency guideline) (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

Levels rise and fall through the day and from day to day, so one reading is not enough. The Endocrine Society advises repeating the test before diagnosing (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

  1. Symptoms

The doctor asks about desire, energy, mood and sleep.

  2. Morning blood test, twice

Both samples are taken early in the morning, on different days (AUA, Testosterone deficiency guideline).

  3. Look for a cause

The doctor checks weight, sleep, medicines and other conditions.

  4. Decide on care

Treatment, if any, is a medical decision with follow-up tests (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

The evidence04

Do testosterone booster ingredients work?

The evidence is weak or mixed for the herbs in most boosters. A supplement being sold for testosterone does not mean studies show it raises the hormone.

Tribulus is a common example. Its trials used 400 to 750 mg a day, and the testosterone gains were not proven (Vilar Neto 2025, tribulus review) (MSKCC, Tribulus terrestris). Ashwagandha has some stress and sleep evidence but thin evidence for male sexual function (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha) (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).

Maca has a few small trials on sexual function, and the evidence is limited (MSKCC, Maca) (Shin 2010, maca systematic review). For muira puama and catuaba, we found no human trial at all (Brunetti 2020, herbal sexual enhancers (muira puama)) (Kletter 2004, catuaba products analysis).

Any real effect would also depend on dose. Most supplement blends use negligible amounts of each ingredient (Petre 2023, ED supplements review).

Stallion Power05

Does Stallion Power raise testosterone?

No study shows that it does, and we do not claim it. Stallion Power is a supplement for adults, not a hormone product.

The label prints an 82 mg blend of nine ingredients and the amount of one of them: caffeine, 5 mg. By our arithmetic from the label order, not a lab test, tribulus and ashwagandha can each weigh 5 mg or less in a gummy.

Studied doses are far higher: 400 to 750 mg for tribulus (Vilar Neto 2025, tribulus review) and 240 to 1,250 mg for ashwagandha (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha). No trial has tested Stallion Power itself.

How the label order caps each line of the 82 mg blend. A blend must list its parts from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). Caffeine is printed as 5 mg and sits fifth, so everything after it weighs 5 mg or less, and everything before it shares the other 77 mg.
PlaceLabel lineMost it can weighWhy
1Muira puama extractAt most about 77 mgThe first line can be at most everything except the caffeine: 77 mg.
2Maca extractAt most about 38 mgTwo lines at least this heavy, so at most half of 77 mg.
3Catuaba extractAt most about 25 mgThree lines at least this heavy: at most a third of 77 mg.
4Green tea extractAt most about 19 mgFour lines at least this heavy: at most a quarter of 77 mg.
5Caffeine5 mgPrinted on the label: 5 mg.
6AshwagandhaAt most about 5 mgListed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that.
7L-arginineAt most about 5 mgListed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that.
8Tribulus terrestrisAt most about 5 mgListed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that.
9Horny goat weed extractAt most about 5 mgListed last, so it cannot weigh more than the caffeine.

Lines 1-4 must add up to 77 mg minus nothing else: 82 mg total, less 5 mg caffeine, less at most 20 mg for lines 6-9, leaves at least 57 mg for lines 1-4. This is our arithmetic from the label order, not a lab test. The label also says the blend is equivalent to about 567 mg of dry powders, which describes the starting plant material, not the finished amounts.

Safety06

Are testosterone supplements safe?

Safety depends on the product and the person. Natural does not mean safe, and NIH reminds buyers that supplements are not pre-approved (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements: What You Need To Know).

Some herbs in this category have rare liver reports, such as ashwagandha and green tea extract pills (LiverTox, Ashwagandha) (NCCIH, Green Tea). Ashwagandha also carries pregnancy and thyroid cautions (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).

Some products sold for male sexual health have been found to hold undeclared drugs, which we cover in hidden drug warnings (FDA, Tainted sexual enhancement products).

Ask first if you take medicine

Supplements can change how medicines work. Tell your doctor or pharmacist what you take, and keep taking prescribed medicine as directed (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).

Next step07

When should you ask a doctor about testosterone?

Ask when symptoms last for weeks, affect your daily life or come with erection trouble, a loss of body hair or breast changes.

A doctor may also look at sleep apnea, weight, diabetes and your medicines before any hormone test. Fixing those can make a large difference by itself (NIDDK, ED treatment).

  • Bring a list of symptoms and when they began
  • Bring every medicine and supplement you take
  • Ask what the early-morning test involves
  • Ask what else could explain how you feel

Day-to-day habits matter too; see men's health habits.

Claims08

How should you read testosterone claims in ads?

Read them as marketing until a human trial of the finished product says otherwise. FTC wants real evidence behind health claims (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

The Stallion Power label says "Boost Performance†", "Support Confidence†" and "Maximum Strength†". The dagger points to the FDA statement that the claims are not evaluated, and that the product is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

The sales page adds that it will "Increase vitality and energy to tackle daily challenges." It cites no clinical study (Stallion Power sales page). Read our claims and evidence page for each one.

Be careful with celebrity names or countdown timers as well (FTC, Did a celebrity really endorse that?).

FAQ09

Testosterone and supplements: short answers

Do testosterone supplements contain testosterone?

No. Over-the-counter boosters list herbs, vitamins or amino acids, not the hormone. Testosterone itself is a prescription treatment given under medical care (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

Is Stallion Power a testosterone booster?

No. It is a dietary supplement gummy, and no study shows it changes hormone levels. The label makes performance and confidence claims with a dagger, which means FDA has not evaluated them.

How do I know if I have low testosterone?

A doctor diagnoses it with symptoms plus two early-morning blood tests that are both low (AUA, Testosterone deficiency guideline). Symptoms alone cannot confirm it because tiredness and low mood have many causes.

Why are testosterone tests done in the morning?

Levels are highest early in the day and drift down later, so a morning sample is the most reliable. Guidelines call for repeat testing before a diagnosis (AUA, Testosterone deficiency guideline) (Endocrine Society 2018, testosterone therapy guideline).

Does tribulus raise testosterone?

The evidence says not reliably. Trials used 400 to 750 mg a day, and testosterone gains were unproven (Vilar Neto 2025, tribulus review) (MSKCC, Tribulus terrestris). One Stallion Power gummy holds 5 mg or less by our label arithmetic.

Can lifestyle change testosterone levels?

Sleep, weight, exercise and alcohol all relate to hormone health, and a clinician often starts there (NIDDK, ED treatment). See our habits guide for the basics.

Can ashwagandha harm the liver?

Rarely. LiverTox rates it a likely cause of uncommon liver injury, with onset in 2 to 12 weeks (LiverTox, Ashwagandha). Stop use and call a doctor for dark urine, yellow skin or severe tiredness.

Should I buy a testosterone supplement before getting tested?

Test first. A supplement may not address the cause, and it can hide the picture for a while. Ask your doctor, and mention any supplement you already take (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).
