Muira puama and catuaba
Muira Puama and Catuaba in Stallion Power: What Is Known and What Is Not
Muira puama and catuaba are two South American bark extracts listed first and third in the Stallion Power 82 mg blend. We found no human trial for either, so we make no claim that they do anything. The label prints no amounts, but our arithmetic puts muira puama at 77 mg or less and catuaba at about 25 mg or less per gummy.

The two barks01
What are muira puama and catuaba in Stallion Power?
Muira puama and catuaba are plant barks from South America, and both appear on the Stallion Power label as extracts. Muira puama is the first line of the blend. Catuaba is the third.
Muira puama comes from an Amazon shrub that folk medicine calls a "potency wood". Catuaba comes from a Brazilian tree and has a long history as a tonic drink.
Old use is not proof. Tradition tells us what people tried, not whether it worked.

| Name on the label | Muira Puama Extract |
|---|---|
| What it is | Ptychopetalum olacoides or P. uncinatum, a shrub bark from the Amazon |
| Where it appears | Place 1 of 9 in the 82 mg proprietary blend |
| Amount per gummy | Not listed; place 1 of 9, at most about 77 mg |
| Amount used in research | No human dose found |
| Strength of evidence | Very little: no human trial found; a safety review notes sparse data |
| Marketed or traditional use | Sold as a 'potency wood'. We found no human trial that tests it for erections or libido. |
| Main caution | Herbal aphrodisiacs look safe at normal doses, but data are sparse and drug interactions are the bigger worry. |
| Name on the label | Catuaba Extract |
|---|---|
| What it is | Bark of Trichilia catigua or Erythroxylum catuaba, a Brazilian tree |
| Where it appears | Place 3 of 9 in the 82 mg proprietary blend |
| Amount per gummy | Not listed; place 3 of 9, at most about 25 mg |
| Amount used in research | No human dose found |
| Strength of evidence | Very little: lab work only; many catuaba products were adulterated |
| Marketed or traditional use | Brazilian bark tonic. A 14-product analysis found most were not what the label claimed. |
| Main caution | Quality varies; no human safety data found. |
The evidence02
Does muira puama work for men?
We found no human trial that tests muira puama, so we cannot say whether it works. We make no claim that it does.
A review of herbal sexual enhancers describes the data on this bark as sparse. It adds that herbal products in this group look safe at normal doses, but their drug interactions are the bigger worry (Brunetti 2020, herbal sexual enhancers (muira puama)).
A missing trial means the question is open. It does not mean the bark is useless, and it does not mean it is harmful.
Where no human trial exists, we write "no human trial found" and stop. We do not borrow results from other ingredients or from lab work.
Catuaba03
What does the research say about catuaba?
The research on catuaba is lab work and product testing, with no human trial found. A study of 14 catuaba products found that most were not what their labels claimed (Kletter 2004, catuaba products analysis).
The same study ran extracts through a lab test of erection tissue and saw no effect (Kletter 2004, catuaba products analysis). Lab tissue is not a man, so we cite it only to show that nothing on file supports a claim.
The Stallion Power label calls its ingredient "Catuaba Extract" and does not say which tree it comes from or how it was checked. Neither does the sales page. That is the same gap that the older product study warned about.
Blend math04
How much muira puama and catuaba is in one Stallion Power gummy?
The label does not say. By our arithmetic, muira puama is at most about 77 mg and catuaba at most about 25 mg per gummy.
A proprietary blend lists its parts from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). Caffeine is printed as 5 mg and sits fifth. The four lines after it can weigh 5 mg each at most, about 20 mg together. That leaves at least 57 mg for the first four lines.
The top of the range is when muira puama takes everything except the caffeine: 77 mg. If the lines after it share the rest evenly, in order, catuaba in third place tops out near 25 mg.
These are ceilings from our arithmetic of the label order, not a lab test. Heavy does not mean strong: first place tells you about mass, not effect.
| Place | Label line | Most it can weigh | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Muira puama extract | At most about 77 mg | The first line can be at most everything except the caffeine: 77 mg. |
| 2 | Maca extract | At most about 38 mg | Two lines at least this heavy, so at most half of 77 mg. |
| 3 | Catuaba extract | At most about 25 mg | Three lines at least this heavy: at most a third of 77 mg. |
| 4 | Green tea extract | At most about 19 mg | Four lines at least this heavy: at most a quarter of 77 mg. |
| 5 | Caffeine | 5 mg | Printed on the label: 5 mg. |
| 6 | Ashwagandha | At most about 5 mg | Listed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that. |
| 7 | L-arginine | At most about 5 mg | Listed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that. |
| 8 | Tribulus terrestris | At most about 5 mg | Listed after the 5 mg caffeine, so it cannot weigh more than that. |
| 9 | Horny goat weed extract | At most about 5 mg | Listed last, so it cannot weigh more than the caffeine. |
Lines 1-4 must add up to 77 mg minus nothing else: 82 mg total, less 5 mg caffeine, less at most 20 mg for lines 6-9, leaves at least 57 mg for lines 1-4. This is our arithmetic from the label order, not a lab test. The label also says the blend is equivalent to about 567 mg of dry powders, which describes the starting plant material, not the finished amounts.

Is it safe to take muira puama and catuaba?
We found no human safety data for catuaba, and only sparse data for muira puama. The honest answer is that nobody knows enough to say.
The herbal review above says these products look safe at normal doses but warns about interactions (Brunetti 2020, herbal sexual enhancers (muira puama)). Interaction risk is the reason the label asks people on medications to talk to a doctor first.
The label itself says: if you are pregnant or nursing, take medications or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before using. Stop and call your doctor if a reaction occurs (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements: What You Need To Know).
A supplement is never a reason to skip, stop or cut a prescribed dose. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every product you take (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).
FDA has found undeclared drugs in some "male enhancement" products (FDA, Tainted sexual enhancement products). We have not tested this gummy and no lab report is published.
Our view06
Should muira puama and catuaba change your decision?
They should not carry the decision. Two of the nine lines have no human trial, no printed amount and no stated species.
Read the ingredients overview, the supplement facts then maca, which has a few small trials.
Persistent erection trouble can point to heart or blood-sugar problems and is worth a visit (Mayo Clinic, Erectile dysfunction).
FAQ08
Muira puama and catuaba questions
What is muira puama?
Muira puama is the bark of an Amazon shrub, sold as a "potency wood". It is the first line of the Stallion Power blend. We found no human trial for it, and a review calls the data sparse (Brunetti 2020, herbal sexual enhancers (muira puama)).
Does catuaba work?
We found no human trial showing that catuaba works. A study of 14 catuaba products found that most were not what their labels claimed, and its extracts showed no effect in a lab erection test (Kletter 2004, catuaba products analysis).
How many milligrams of muira puama are in Stallion Power?
The label does not print it. By our arithmetic from the label order, muira puama is at most about 77 mg of the 82 mg blend, and probably less. That is a ceiling, not a measured amount (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).
Is catuaba extract safe to take?
No human safety data for catuaba were found. Quality is also a worry, since many catuaba products were mislabeled in testing (Kletter 2004, catuaba products analysis). If you take medicines or have a health condition, ask your doctor first.
Can I take muira puama with my medicines?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist. Experts worry more about interactions than about the bark itself (Brunetti 2020, herbal sexual enhancers (muira puama)). Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed, and tell your care team about every supplement (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).
Where do muira puama and catuaba sit in the 82 mg blend?
Muira puama is place 1 of 9 and catuaba is place 3 of 9. Caffeine, at 5 mg, is place 5. The four lines after caffeine can weigh 5 mg each at most.
